Holstein Fiber

First Step - Complete Permission to Bury to Get Fiber to Your Location

Construction is underway! The NEXT STEP is for everyone to complete a ‘Permission to Bury’ online form.

Fiber Construction update - Oct 23, 2023

Construction for the Holstein fiber Internet project is underway in both the rural area and in town.

One crew is building in the rural area south of town; they will continue in the rural areas. The week of Oct 16th a second crew joined the effort to start work in town. Last week, we placed the ‘hut’ which will house some of the electronics used to provide fiber Internet service to the area.

We mark where your fiber line to your house will go with pink flags, so you can see where it will be prior to construction. If you have an underground dog fence, personal gas or electric lines or irrigation – please let us know, so we can avoid them.

Fiber construction is very weather dependent, but we still hope to complete all phases of construction before the end of 2023. We will see what the weather and locate related matters (you can read more about that here) allow us to do.

If we can complete construction this fall, we will work on splicing and testing in the winter. When that is complete, we plan to start installations. Good weather deep into December will help us out a lot. If the weather stops us, we will start again in the spring where we left off.

The best news is that soon you will have fiber Internet connected right to your home, so you can experience all the benefits of fiber Internet.

Please contact us by phone or email with any questions.

Also, please share this with anyone who might still want to sign the permission to bury form – so we can bring fiber Internet to their home as well.

Holstein Fiber Update - July 6th 2023

Great news. The Holstein fiber project continues to march forward as planned AND NOW the City of Holstein is INCLUDED in the Project. Which means if you live in the City of Holstein you can get NET Broadband fiber to your home. (See the button directly above to get started.)

Thank you for submitting your permission to bury form. NET Broadband plans to start construction soon, and it will continue during the 2024 construction season.

The construction process occurs in 3 phases:

  • Main line fiber

  • Fiber 'drops' to homes

  • And splicing/testing

NET Broadband anticipates starting to install/connect customers to the fiber network later in 2024. Like you, we wish it could happen sooner, but acquiring materials, and most importantly, enough qualified construction contractors continues to be a hurdle for projects like ours.

Your reward will be worth it because you'll have fiber Internet, which less than 40% of customers in Iowa currently have. Why does fiber matter?

  • Ultra-fast bandwidth (speed)

  • Ultra-reliable

  • Unlimited! No limits, no data usage caps.

  • Makes your home even more valuable, without raising your taxes

  • Connect all your devices to stream, game, shop, work, video chat. Use your Internet like you want, without limits!

Project Details & Map

Good news! As you may know, NET Broadband is bringing fiber Internet (and likely phone services too) to the customers of Holstein. We would love the opportunity to serve you when the project is complete, so please read below about next steps you can take today.

NET Broadband is a partnership between North West REC and Evertek. We applied for and received funding for part of this project from the State of Iowa Broadband Grant program.

The area highlighted in green is the fiber build area.

In the fall of 2022, engineers are making construction plans, and residents may see them in the area doing survey type work. It is expected that during the winter of 2022-23, those plans will be put out to bid and a construction contract will be awarded. Final construction timelines will we announced after the contract is awarded.
