Sioux Rapids Fiber Project Update - October 23, 2023

We are writing with great news!

Rural Sioux Rapids construction of the fiber Internet network is done. We are finishing splicing and testing, which is going well. If that continues, we expect to start contacting customers to schedule their fiber installations around November 1. Installations will continue this fall and through the winter. 

In town Sioux Rapids: installations are happening now!

Remember, all new installations (town and rural) get FREE Installation and a Free 1st month of service!

Sioux Rapids Fiber Update - July 5, 2023

Great news for both town and rural Sioux Rapids residents.

Town customers: Today, you can contact our office and schedule your FREE Installation, and get your First Month FREE as well. Call our office today to finalize your product choices and select your installation day/time. Call 712-834-2255.

Rural customers: there is still time to complete your permission to bury form on-line via our website, so that we can bring fiber optics right to your home for no cost for the construction. 

Construction is underway now, in fact it is nearly 50% complete. Evertek anticipates starting to install/connect customers to the fiber network in September of this year.

As a reminder, construction occurs in 3 phases:

  • Main line fiber

  • Fiber 'drops' to homes

  • And splicing/testing

When the project is done, you'll have fiber Internet, which less than 40% of customers in Iowa currently have. Why does fiber matter?

May 11, 2023 Project Update

In-Town Sioux Rapids Residents - Good news! We have all Zones in the city of Sioux Rapids ready for installations NOW! We are contacting customers in all city Zones now and scheduling installations.

Rural Sioux Rapids Rural Customers - Main line construction has started. Your first step is to complete the Permission to Bury Form. During our construction period, bringing fiber to you is FREE. After construction ends and you or the current resident decide you want service, you will be responsible for construction, which could cost up to $1,500.

There are 4 steps to the construction process: 1) main line fiber construction, 2) fiber drop construction to each property who completed permission to bury form, 3) splicing the fiber drops to the main line fiber & then testing it, 4) installation/turn on service at homes of customers.

January 24, 2023 Project Update

Sioux Rapids town residents. We thought everyone would appreciate an update on the fiber project. We had a great fall to work, but then winter came abruptly, and construction work had to stop.

Good news! We have 1 zone of the 5 zones in the city of Sioux Rapids ready for installations NOW! We are contacting customers in Zone 1 now and scheduling installations.

In the spring, we will pick up where we left off with the construction, splicing and testing of Zones 2, 3, 4 & 5 in the city, so we start those customers installations in the late spring or early summer.

Rural Sioux Rapids customers, we expect main line construction to start after the construction in the city is complete.

Fiber building arrives Thursday, May 26th

Sioux Rapids residents, you are likely to notice the very large crane in town on Thursday, May 26th. The crane is being used to unload and place the building which will house some of the equipment we will use to bring you fiber Internet. A picture of a building similar to ours is pictured with this story.

The community of Sioux Rapids fiber project is out for bid now, and we anticipate reviewing final bids later this week or early next week. After that, we will have a better idea of the final timeline of the project, specifically when it will start.

As you likely know, the fiber project in the community of Sioux Rapids, which we announced right before Christmas last year, will begin first. In early 2022, we were awarded a number of State of Iowa Broadband Grants…one of which will allow us to build fiber to customers in rural Sioux Rapids as well. That project (and other grant projects) are at various stages of bidding and engineering.
